Full-on bamboo boards are on their way, baby

Pandas eat it, allotment goers grow tomatoes up it and some chumps turn it into contemporary place mats or maybe even coasters. These ideas are all kinda there or there abouts, but the peeps at Windlip have taken bamboo to another level, they’ve gone tertiary platform with this shit!

They are currently constructing a fully sustainable board, known simply as the eco rocket! It's made from bamboo veneers laminated at right angles that are bonded together with water-soluble wood glue, compressed without using any heat, just pressure and finished on the top with a simple wax.

But what about the standard base and metal edges that are attached to this Panda’s dinner? Not a problem. Stick your old board in a jiffy bag, label it up to: Village De La Mouche, Pussy, France (that’s were these things are produced) where it will be stripped down.

The bamboo is burnt, while the plastic base is recycled and turned into another plastic base. Same kinda deal goes for the metal edging.

When we met up with owners Dan and Lisa, they were onto prototype number 2 – which is still a little soft, while prototype 1 was a little too stiff. They’re currently crafting prototype 3, which will be somewhere in the middle, i.e. on the nose! Only problem is, you’ll have to wait a while.

According to Mr and Mrs Robinson you’ll be able to get your mitts on one in 2009/2010. Swears down, I reckon it’s worth the wait, these things look absolutely stunning: no neon, no massive branding, no bullshit just loads of wood!!!
