Barcelona Extreme Sports Festival, June 6-7, 2009
A look back at last year’s event in the run up to summer ‘09.
Now in its second year, Barcelona Extreme Sports Festival returns this summer and is set to top last year’s unprecedented success.
In October 2008, over 40,000 spectators gathered in the grounds of the Parc del Forum to watch the awesome array of tricks, jumps and jibs from national, international and amateur riders alike. The urban sports festival featured around 200 pros and 500 amateurs who performed for the love of their game in the eight domains of skateboarding, BMX, inline skating, FMX, wakeboarding, skiing, snowboarding and longboarding.
The level of competition was extremely high. For the International Skate Pro Series, Rodrigo Menezes (USA) was at the top of his game, scoring first place in the half pipe, followed by Terrance Bougdour (FRA) and Josh Stafford (USA). The UK also brought home gold thanks to wakeboarder Marc Rossiter from Oxford, who ripped on the kickers and rails. The BMX pros stole the finale with kickass style, darish jibs and big air flips, leaving the crowds in awe and amazement. Bjorn 'Brommel' Mager from Germany stole the show and made jaws drop with his fluid technical tricks, branding himself as one to watch.
Promoted by Ajuntament de Barcelona and Institut Barcelona Esports, last year’s event pulled out all the stops with exhibitions, clinics and guest DJs, solidifying it’s reputation as the biggest urban sports event in Spain.
So roll on the summer!!
