Brotheryn Records showing a full hand

The Brotheryn crew recently sent over the latest and greatest from their stable of affiliated recording artists and friends, so here's a quick run-down of what's cooking stateside.

We have covered Timmy Curran and Todd Hannigan previously on the blog as regulars on surf movie soundtracks and part of the highly creative, waveriding seam of people.

Todd Hannigan is currently touring with Rob Machado and Jon Swift on The Drifter movie tour in the States and his latest work Courtside For The Apocalypse is out now.  He's also producing Timmy Curran's next collection of tunes.

Lukas Nelson and the Promise of The Real are possibly the most striking find amongst the pile of CDs in the envelope. Lukas is the son of Willie and the band has a distinctive bluegrass sound, with Lukas's raspy voice clear as a bell ringing out dreamy, experienced lyrics. They are ones to watch and they have already supported luminaries such as Bob Dylan, BB King and Dave Matthews.

The other two CDs in the pack are not as easy to place, a good thing given the current X-Factor influence of obsessively pigeon-holing genres and artists, although they are both definitely rock-folk influenced. Terraplane Sun are heavier and darker, with an accomplished bluesy overtone. Hailing from Venice Beach they seem to have a hard-living vibe, but they uplift at the same time and make you want to see them live because you know it will be a good night.

MK and The Gentlemen has a softer focus, and this is down to his lazy drawl made in Texas and honed in Cali sunshine. It's gentle funky rock and the ladies will like it.
