Bud Browne dies aged 96
Bud Browne, the father of surf films, has died at the age of 96.
He passed away in his sleep Friday 25 July at his home in San Luis Obispo, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Credited as the pioneer of the surf film genre, Browne's contribution to the archives includes old-school classics "Trek to Makaha," "The Big Surf," "Surf Down Under," "Cat on a Hot Foam Board," "Surf Happy" and "Gun Ho!"
Browne's place in the history books will not go unnoticed. Least of all for the fact that he reached a ripe old surfing age just four years short of a century. Respect to that.
A celebration of Browne's life will be held at 7pm Aug 25 at Waimea Falls.
