Burton brings out the big guns

Well, obviously not actual firearms, just some awesome new snowboards for 08/09!

Just when it seemed that snowboard design couldn't go any further than a little lighter here, and a bit more shaping there, Burton comes along and sets a whole new standard. Here beginneth the leasson...

The main feature of this new range is the EST (Extruded Slot Technology) and ICS (Infinite Channel System). This is a new type of binding system which sees the bindings attach to the snowboard via grooves milled into the board.

This basically offers an infinite variations of foot stance, no longer are you slave to degrees and increments when mounting your bindings. And with this ECT/ICS combo, you get a baseless uber-binding with various cushions to suit your riding style. And the best part is, as the whole thing is attached with only two screws (which, Burton assures us, once tightened, are pretty much immovable), you can alter your stance in no time at all.

HUCK got to have a ride on one of these new superboards, The Vapor, and here is what we thought. (Please Note:  Some details have been changed; only the names, facts and actual events remain the same!)

Says HUCK rider: "Although a Snowdome in town in the West Midlands, let's call this place, say, Tamworth, may not be the ideal setting to put all the aspects of a highly engineered snowboard to the test, it's a good enough place start.

First thing I can say is this board is light, I mean, a size zero supermodel would make more of an impression on the scales than this mutha! The base is silky smooth - apparently it's made using nitrous oxide, which makes it superfast and forgiving. And the difference is amazing; popping 1s soon turn into 3s (or a scruffy 270s-ish at least) and those boxes didn't look so scary anymore. I did end up with a few bruises and a swollen finger but only cos I was trying stuff I had previously been too much of a pansy to try! Where can I get myself one of these? I don't think my board is going to cut it anymore.."

And there you have it, snowboarding may never be the same again..cos it's going to be even better!

  • The top side of that board looks wicked. The flip side is a bit kiddie crayons. Cos, y'know, it's looks that count, right?
