Are you callin’ me a lyre?
Wandering through the jungle can be quite an unfamiliar practise for many. But if you ever find yourself slashing through the deepest Australian bush in your ancestors’ footsteps, be comforted by the very real possibility that their voices could echo from this bad boy’s nest.
Imitating the sounds of his fellow feathered crew as well as the noises of the surrounding forest, the Lyre bird (Menura Novaehollandiae) is one helluva good liar; think Clark Kent in a superman look-alike competition. But there’s one downer to his imitating ways. While he's sat there squawking out the call of the local worker’s chainsaws, they're hacking away at his stomping ground. A sad image when you think the little guy is clueless that one day that very noise could be his downfall. Kinda gets you thinking.
A poet is a liar who speaks the truth... know what I’m sayin?
