O’Neill Cold Water Classic Day 3
Local surfer, Peter Devries, stormed through his heat with legends Dusty Payne and Damien Fahrenfort, in Round 96 at the O'Neill Cold Water Classic Canada, October 26.
The Canadian is well acclimated to the temperature in Tofino saying "Itʼs not too bad out there at the moment, it's actually quite warm for this time of year." This may have given Devries an advantage over his warmer-blooded competitors from hot spots like Hawaii.
Says Dusty Payne: "This is the coldest water I have ever touched in my life. I donʼt think I could ever acclimate to this. I was so cold out there I forgot sometimes that I was surfing a heat, I was just trying to stay warm.
"Itʼs great that OʼNeill is out finding surf in these remote wild places. I didnʼt imagine that it could be to the extent that they brought everyone to a snowboard area to surf!”
The competition will run until October 31 and the series will finish with the O'Neill Cold Water Classic California.
Blake Thornton is currently the highest ranking surfer on the tour.
