Cold Water Classic South Africa: Day two
O’Neill Cold Water Classic South Africa continued today with some massive waves and some event favourites being knocked out
The action took place in the 8ft swells at Outer Kom on the Cape Peninsula with Cold Water Classic Tasmania winner Stuart Kennedy being just one of the unlucky ones who failed to get through to the next round.
Also knocked out in this round of 64 were last year’s semi-finalist Jarrad Howse and local Casey Grant. But 14-year-old local surfer Benji Brand won his heat with a 16.34, the highest of the day.
“I’m really stoked. I surf here a lot at Outer Kom. It’s a really fun wave,” said Benji. “There was quite a bit of kelp today but I managed to get two good scores. I’ve been surfing nine years. I’ve lived in Hawaii as well as just on the point here, which I think helped.”
