Etnies shoe giveaway

The current economic crisis has lead to an increase in the number of homeless people living on the streets of LA.  So last weekend Etnies paired up with Los Angeles Mission to provide more than 2,000 homeless men, women and kids with a hot meal and a brand new pair of Etnies shoes.

Says etnies owner Pierre Andre Senizergues: "In these tough economic times, there is more reason than ever to help those in need and give back to the causes that touch your heart - for me this is the Los Angeles Mission."

Actually, this isn't the first time Etnies has given shoes to the homeless.  Over the last decade, etnies has flowed more than 25,000 pairs of shoes to homeless people living in Los Angeles.  Over the last few months the Mission has seen a 10% increase in people coming in for meals and services, so it seems like a good time to give some more.

Despite this, there has been a bit of debate over etnies motives. Do they really want to help out the homeless or is this just a clever piece of marketing?

Granted, this gesture cannot be entirely selfless, it will help raise their profile for sure but as other companies sink out of existence every day who can blame them?  Any smart company would do the same if they could.

And at the end of the day etnies made 2,000 people slightly happier, that can't be a bad thing surely?

  • Yeah, I guess this is good marketing for etnies, but I think they are a good company you know, they do a lot of good stuff for the environment with the likes of their SEED project too.

  • Cynicism doesn't feed people and put etnies on their feet

  • I think it's a shame that people automatically doubt good intention. Who knows exactly why Etnies wanted to do this, but maybe it was simply to help people out who ain't got as much as some?
