Fishing Boat wrecks Padang Surf
On the eve of the Rip Curl Padang Cup earlier this month, a fishing boat from Taiwan ran aground on the reef at Padang Padang in Indonesia.
Sitting right where the surfers drop in, it pretty much wrote off the contest. As it turns out, the boat went missing on 13th May 2008 and was being sought by the Taiwanese authorities. It is believed that the crew deliberately ran the boat aground and fled. Whilst 12 of the 14 crew members have been arrested, the remaining two are still at large. However, the captain has mysteriously disappeared leading to speculation of mutiny and murder!

If that wasn't enough, the boat has been on Greenpeace's shitlist for alleged destructive fishing methods including shark finning. Then along comes a storm and the boat starts leaking fuel over the reef, leading to a massive clean up effort.
Bastards!
