The Footprint Chronicles from Patagonia

Patagonia have produced a website that enables you to track the social and environmental impact of 5 particular garments.

By letting the consumer offer their thoughts on how best to lessen their impact, the company hopes to create a pool of intelligence drawn from the widest possible spectrum. Complacency and inaction are the root of the problem, so providing a forum in the form of The Footprint Chronicles could replace the lethargy.

One immediate result is de-basing the myth that transportation is the biggest harm to the environment in their supply chain, instead realising it is a small part of their problem and that they should be focusing on the manufacturing model instead.

The transparency extends to filmed employee/contractor interviews from all parts of their production and delivery process. Welcome to the future, we're all clothes manufacturers now.
