Grenade’s The Boned Age premiere at Freeze
Reckon snowboarding's lost it's edge? Sold it's soul to energy drinks and sweatshop (ab)using chain stores? Perhaps, but Grenade are determined to inject some young spunk back into riding, what is essentially, one overweight ski with their latest film - The Boned Age.
In the fine tradition of their past cinematic masterpieces Night Of the Living Shred and Smell The Glove, the Grenade Team Film is once more a spoof - this time ripping the p** out of swinging 70s flick The Stoned Age. Apparently the plot is 'a hellacious ride as two radical buds Joe & Hubbs have themselves a night they’ll remember for the rest of their lives'.
But the film's not just an excuse for (Nike, Gnu and Oakley team rider and Grenade Big Cheese) Danny Kass to dress up like a retro metalhead: the snowboarding is insane - from the Arctic Circle to Vermont, plus Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, California, Idaho, Finland, Oregon and more.
With one of the most stylish and gutsy rider lists of the year - Kass kills it, Kyle Clancy is a backcountry wizard, man-of-the-moment TRice sticks some impossible tricks and much more - it couldn't be anything but sick.
I admit I've already seen it at a police-raided San Diego premiere (more of that later..), and know that if you like thrash soundtracks that get you uber pumped you're in luck - courtesy of Kevin Casillo's hand picked tracks. The riding is also immense - from the club kid craziness of rail phenom Lucas Magoon, to Scotty Lago's liquid smooth spins, a few double back flips plus load tons of epic backcountry booters.
Don't believe me? Then watch these teasers and prepare to eat your words...
The Boned Age will be screened at London Freeze this Saturday, October 25, in the Village at 20.30.
