Gilmore wins Action Sportsperson of the Year
Stephanie Gilmore has been named Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year at a gala ceremony in Abu Dhabi last night.
The former HUCK cover star and three times world ASP World Tour champion beat five other nominees, including two-time ASP world champion Mick Fanning, to claim the award.
Says Gilmore: "To win the Laureus Award is just unbelievable, it's truly beyond my wildest dreams. I can't believe it - as a surfer, I just love surfing and to be up here with all these athletes that I look up to is just amazing. Winning this award is definitely right up there with winning world titles and that's one of the best feelings you can ever have.”
Other athletes honoured that evening included Serena Williams, Jenson Button and Usain Bolt.

(And yes, that is actor and notorious kerb crawler Hugh Grant lurking behind her in that photo! He presented her with the prize.)
