Go Skateboarding Day
June 21 - it's on!
It's not long to go until Go Skateboarding Day. This Sunday, millions of skaters around the world will be taking part in the numerous events worldwide.
Says the organisers: "On June 21, skateboarders around the globe will celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of one of the most influential activities in the world by blowing off all other obligations to go skateboarding."
That's fair enough, let's just hope that some nuclear power plant technician doesn't feel the urge to knock off early to go for a push!
But if you feel like you need a little inspiration, check out Dennis Busenitz's part in Adidas' new film Diagonal. If that doesn't make you want to skate, then you best just go get yourself some inlines and be done with it...

Just watch out for the security guards protecting bankers property from other people enjoying it!
Some of the best skating can be found from around Bank station down to the river. You’ve got to pick the right time (see aforementioned tourists) but there’s some nice downhill’s – wide and flat – to be enjoyed. Just make sure to check that the street you end up turning onto is a suitable surface and the turn isn’t too tight.
Also the back streets between old street and Bank can be good fun for some old fashioned sidewalk surfing.
One last thing. The police were everywhere on Sunday but I wasn’t hassled once. Maybe it was because I was on a longboard rather than a street deck, or maybe the 5-0 are cool with skaters now, but this was a nice change from some previous experiences.
