‘Greening the Billabong Pro’ video
A look at the environmental impact of the South African surf contest.
Billabong have just released the latest of their webisodes in the run up to the Billabong Pro J-Bay at Jeffreys Bay from July 15 -21.
This episode called Greening the Billabong Pro looks at the efforts to lower the contest's carbon footprint through its partnership with Cleaner Climate.
It was estimated total carbon footprint of the Billabong Pro is 365 tonnes of CO2. This includes emissions from travelling J-Bay, accommodation, energy consumption, waste and paper consumption.
However, the event is striving to reduce this through using alternative fuels, ditching plastic bags and even installing using solar heated showers for the competitors.
