Lia Halloran captures some ‘Dark Skate’
Lia Halloran is a talented photographer working out of Los Angeles, and her latest exhibition is as good a reason as any to sit up and take note.
Dark Skate/ Duarte, 2007
Dark Skate, her second New York solo exhibition, captures ten skate spots around LA as they lie abandoned in the still of the night. Using light to trace her natural skating path and capturing the motion with super long exposures, Lia has created a ly portrait of how skateboarders dominate space.
Echoing the poise of a Gregory Crewdson still-life and the stillness of Todd Hido’s nighttime landscapes, Halloran’s work is as eerie as it is beautiful.
Dark Skate/ Upland Full Pipe, 2007
But beyond the beauty, and beyond the s, Lia has managed to expose the creative potential that lies dormant within skateable architecture. All it takes is one hungry skateboarder to bring it back to life.
Check out the show, like, now. It’ll make you wanna head out for a nighttime sesh, we swear.
Dark Skate will be showing at DCKT Contemporary, New York, July 23 - September 13, 2008.
