Old Hands keeping young guns at bay
Kelly Slater (36) wins at Bells, Sunny Garcia (38) returns to stoke the fire in WA. Age and young competition prove no obstacles when you're feeling up for it, which is precisely where these two are at.
They are good friends and have each won Rip Curl Bells Beach Pro three times no less, and its the challenge that the new surfers on the block represent that is driving the old boys forward.
Its catching too - Mark Foster, a swimming legend on this great isle, has just qualified for his 5th Olympics at the age of 37. He trains 3 times a week and hates competing in the morning. There's no substitute for experience obviously.
