Happy Birthday Hyperdub!
In the current economic climate, many independent record labels are struggling to stay afloat. Fortunately, Hyperdub is not one of them. The South London dub step label celebrates five years of innovative music this month with an anniversary CD and birthday party.
Hyperdub is the brainchild of Steve Goodman, otherwise known as dub step pioneer Kode9 (pictured). Goodman started the label in 2004 to release his own music but soon developed greater ambitions. In 2007, The Wire named Hyperdub label of the year. The label's first signing, Burial, was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2008 for the haunting sound scape Untrue.
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Hyperdub has released a compilation of the label's best mixes and will host an official birthday part at Corsica Studios in South London on 21 November.
5: Five Years of Hyperdub is out now.
