Jamie Anderson and Shaun White named overall Burton European Open Champions
After a day of huge amplitude in yesterday’s halfpipe finals, Jamie Anderson and Shaun White walked away from the Burton European Open with brand new rides and overall champion status.
Kelly Clark soared into first place in the halfpipe competition, going way bigger with each and every hit than many of her testosterone-fuelled compadres. The guys, meanwhile, welcomed a new victor in the pipe when Kevin Pearce stole the lead from Shaun White with a run that took everyone by surprise, including Kevin himself.
“The contest was exciting,” said Kevin. “I had to drop after Shaun in all three runs, which was super nerve-wracking. But in my last run, I just went for it. My winning run was literally the first time I’ve ever landed back-to-back 1080s in a pipe – even in practice. It felt really good to win – the contest, pipe and weather was amazing today – so I’m super stoked.”
Despite the whole ‘breaking-all-assumptions’ vibe of the day, one constant in the world of snowboarding remained a sure thing; Shaun was named overall winner of the Open for the guys, and Jamie Anderson claimed it for the girls.
And with shiny new cars (Suzuki Grand Vitara Freeride’s, to be precise) to show for their efforts, we’re guessing both Jamie and Shaun are, y’know, mildly stoked.
