Kelly takes his ninth world title at Mundaka
This morning Kelly Slater won his third round heat to secure enough points for his incredible 9th world title. Despite the inclement weather in Mundaka at the Billabong Pro, the crowds are currently out in force to help Slater celebrate his march to this year's title. He got beat in the final at the Quiksilver Pro last month, so had to wait until now to make sure.
Five tour wins in 2008 has ensured this year has been somewhat of a procession, making him the oldest and youngest world title winner ever and unarguably the greatest professional surfer in history.
Like Jordan, Federer, Woods et al, he has earned his place at the top of the sports pile and deserves all the plaudits coming his way.
