Ryan McGinley Moonmilk exhibition
New York-based photographer brings his futuristic cave shots to London.
Ryan McGinley, artist and documenter of the young, beautiful and debauched New York counter-culture, swaps urban realism for dreamy surrealism in his latest series of photographs on show in the Alison Jaques Gallery from September 11 - October 8.
The hedonism-obsessed artist searched out 'wild caves' in North America and, inspired by children's adventure stories like Tom Sawyer and A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, captured images that make nature appear supernatural, like a still from a space expedition.
The viewer is transported into an ethereal realm where they are no longer sure of the world around, or underneath, them and science fiction becomes a reality.
