Inspiration from above at Kendal Mountain Festival
The Kendal Mountain Festival is a far cry from the Travis Rice's of this world, more classic sport tradition than contemporary, genre busting moves. That doesn't make it any less edgy or ground-breaking. There is a smorgasbord of content to get your head around at this festival and it starts tomorrow.
A genuine, international mountain film festival, rivaling the likes of Banff, Kendal will attract over 7000 people to Cumbria these next few days. Climbing, skiing, boarding, BASE-jumping, kayaking and paragliding all feature so there is something for everyone with the action sport bug.
One late entry to the programme is Journey To The Center, a BASE-jumping doc following the journey of three world class BASE-jumpers as they make the first ever jump into the largest open cave in the world, The Heavenly Pit in China. One of the jumpers is a personal favourite, Aussie Chris MacDougall, who is a real character.
Amongst the film, art and lectures is the Adventure Film Academy which gives people a chance to learn from BAFTA and EMMY winning professionals. However it may be a bit late to get access to some of the programme, but check the website for further info.
Patagonia is a prominent partner of the festival and Zoe Hart, one of their climbers and ambassadors, will be there giving two lectures as leading female guide and documenter of climate change.
You can purchase tickets online, and might I suggest the train?!
