Girls on film: Oakley’s Uniquely is a female first
It's been a tough ride, but women in action sports films can now firmly leave the objectified, bikini-body cliché behind.
Consistently ignored by the corporate cats of skate, surf, and snow, ladies created their own style of riding; fluid, stylish and all about fun. Girl crews are all about support and good times - in contrast to the aggressive competition of our testosterone soaked, alpha-male counterparts.
Oakley get it; for this season they're focusing on women, starting with the first all girl skate, surf, snow and wake film Uniquely. It's also the first film to use the brand new camera system Red Digital Cinema culminating in a beautifully shot, HD flick, produced and edited by John Roderick of Neu Media, with impressive animated graphics.
A showcase of the eyewear giant's finest female athletes (including Anne-Flore Marxer, Marie-France Roy, Gretchen Bleiler, Layne Beachley, Amber Wiig, Kristi Leskinen, Lynz Adams Hawkins, Karina Petroni and more) it's mainstream friendly with epic action shots - and simple aims. Via trips to Hawaii, Russia, Whistler and Australia we're inspired to follow our dreams and live those lifestyles we dream of - just like the Oakley girls featured.
