O’Neill Cold Water Classic Day 4
The pros struggle to keep warm as the coldest surf comp on the planet enters day four.
The OʼNeill Cold Water Classic Canada had calm conditions with a clean two-metre swell for the fourth day of competition in Cox Bay, Tofino.
Santa Cruz's Nat Young made it through his heat with two high scoring waves despite struggling with the cold temperature.
Says Nat: "When I came out of the water I could hardly even use my legs. Itʼs so tiring out there. Plus I am in a 4mm wetsuit so I am so hot right now, but my head is really cold!"
He wasnʼt the only one. Australian surfer Jarrad Howse also came out of his heat tired, but happy to get through.
“Itʼs hard work out there. There are good waves but itʼs hard work. My legs feel it for sure. And I feel like I have a tomato head!”
The surfers are enjoying the "near-perfect" waves though and seeing a different side to Canada.
Says Nathan Hedge: “This series is special because it takes you to places that are not only great for surf but are really interesting places you would want to come to visit.
"Iʼm staying with Sepp Bruhwiler, which is a great way to get a local feel to the place. Heʼs a real character. Itʼs great to see the other side to life here – the fishing and everything."
