Patagonia bags “Eco Brand of the Year”
So here's the scoop. Patagonia has just been named Eco Brand of the Year at the Volvo Eco Design forum in Munich during the ISPO tradeshow.
The prestigious award represents the recognition by the outdoor industry for Patagonia's efforts and intitatives to lower its impact on the environment.
Its Environmental Grants Program has contributed over $30m in cash and in-kind donations to grassroots environmental activists since the program began in 1985. Likewise, its Environmental Internship Program allows employees to work for environmental groups while receiving their full paycheck.
Since 1996, Patagonia has used only organically grown cotton in its clothing line, and recycled materials in many of its polyester fleece garments. 2005 saw the launch of the Common Threads Recycling Program, one of the world's first garment recycling programs.
Following on with its good work, Patagonia recently launched the Footprint Chronicles on www.patagonia.com to tell the story behind the social and environmental impact of its products from design to delivery.
A solid performance, from a solid brand. If only others would take a leaf out of their recycled book...
