Spencer Murphy, photographer and regular contributor to HUCK has won an Association of Photographers Award.
Spencer won Bronze at the AOP Awards for his series of BMXer portraits that appeared exclusively in HUCK#011.
Says Spencer:
"It feels great to be considered award worthy when you have been selected alongside some of the best photographers in the country. I was trying to create something both jarring and beautiful at once. I try to see an original angle in something that has been photographed so many times before. I often look back at classic painters and try to draw inspiration from them and to show the parts of human existence we would often prefer were unseen.
The difficulties with this sort of thing is always finding willing participants. For the most part it's a lot of hanging around waiting for people. I asked a lot of the more famous faces of BMX to be in the project but it turned out to be the younger lesser-knowns that turned out and I'm glad, I think it would have been a lot different if they were shots of the old hands with their game faces on."
We at HUCK are thrilled with the news and would like to offer Spencer a massive congratulations!
