Surfers Against Sewage announce nationwide beach clean tour stops.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) have once more teamed up with Barefoot Wine and are making their way to 6 beaches around the UK this summer for their annual beach clean.

But they need your help to make the beaches Barefoot Friendly! Last year, 400 people took part and helped remove over 1 tonne of litter from our shoreline. That's rewarding in itself but this year there's also a free BBQ, plus a night of quizzes and free Barefoot wine for those who take part.

This year, the tour will be visiting:

Newquay, Cornwall - July 29

Croyde, Devon -July 30

Bournemouth, Dorset - July 31

Llangennith, West Glamorgan - August 1

Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Redcar and Cleveland - August 2

Brighton, East Sussex - August 3

There are limited spaces for each tour stop, so please book early to secure your free place by contacting Andy Cummins at SAS.

  • Great idea but this tour should stop at every beach in the country!

  • And how exactly is SAS which is a non-profit making organization meant to stop at every single stretch of sand in the UK? I'm not sure it's about clearing every yard of beach, it's about creating awareness and making people think a little before they dump trash... I say good on you guys, keep it happening...

  • A compromise please guys. They can't really stop at every beach in the country, but they should have at least one Scotland stop in there I feel...

  • I think you are missing the point.

It would be great to see such a great idea be done on a much larger scale. Getting people across the country interested and passionate in their local beaches. Having thousands of people show that they want to make their local stretch of sand a clean and pleasant place to be.

It's not a slight on the tour or SAS. But clearing every yard of beach? Why not? That would be fantastic!

  • but by the time you worked your way round the entire coast of Britain the ones you cleaned in the first place would be full of shit again, and it would be time to start all over. It would be a full time job. Although I think I would like it if cleaning beaches was my full time job now I come to think of it...

  • Love that cheesy picture guys!

  • Scotland the Brave - I think it would be a very rewarding career.

But the more people turn up to clean the place up, the fewer people would be dropping litter in the first place.
Perhaps it is beyond the resources of SAS but it's a nice dream

  • I do agree...

But unfortunately a lot of the litter that ends up on our beaches is not dropped directly onto the beach, but from litter that is dumped overboard at sea, or has made its way from the land, into rivers, out to the ocean only to wash up on out beaches. It's never ending.
