‘Sea School’ exhibition
Surfboards reborn as works of art.
Artist Tess Sheerin is bringing her Sea School exhibition to the Graffik Gallery, London W10 from November 22 - December 23.
The various works from the New Zealand-born, St Ives-based artist are crafted on broken surfboards with Sheerin painting, stickering and carving ornate marine compositions on to the foam.
The show will include three new works – Octopuss, Brick Deep and Hibernation – all featuring various Mermaid-esque women.
Says Sheerin: "The idea came to me after a surf one day. I discovered an old board beside a tip that was snapped in half and beat up. When I peeled off the fibreglass, I found the watermarks left on the foam underneath from our trademark Cornish weather were amazing! [...] With each board I started to discover something new I could try. I never thought I would be so intrigued by the temperament of foam."
