Sharks Get Some Sea Shepherd Love Too
The Sea Shepherd crew are heading out for another round of whaler obstruction and harpoon-dodging. After docking in Melbourne for much-needed sustenance and re-crewing, they have the bit between their teeth once again. We wish them well.
Whilst you can’t get a ringside seat in Antarctica, the film Sharkwater opens in the UK next week. The whales are a well-known target but sharks have also become the prey as our beloved race tears up the planet.
Not one to sit idly by, Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society join filmmaker Rob Stewart in his battle to halt the exploitation of sharks. The poaching is happening in supposed marine reserves such as the Cocos Islands, Costa Rica and Galapagos, and the film highlights the role of the shark in the priceless food chain.
That they have to fight for their own lives (and not from sharks) makes this a captivating story in itself, but unfortunately the wider story about a humanity hell-bent on greed is unavoidable and very sadly familiar.
Check for the screenings, out Fri 22nd Feb UK-wide. If you care, you should go. Its that simple. If you don’t, well……..
