Slater the nearly man at Quik Pro
Adrian Buchan from Down Under won the Quiksilver Pro France today over 8-time ASP world champion Kelly Slater in a tight final. Had Slater won he would have clinched his ninth title, but he will have to travel to Mundaka and finish no lower than ninth, ironically, in order to achieve that remarkable goal.
For Buchan it was the other end of the scale, this being his maiden WCT win, and what a way to do it - by beating the most successful competitive surfer in history in the final. Truly memorable for him.
Slater once again stands on the brink of a world title but his sponsors Quiksilver were no doubt disappointed not to be celebrating on home sand. Mundaka will surely provide the spoils to a legend of the sport.
