SAS spring beach cleanup
A spot of spring-cleaning has been going on at Porthtowan Beach in Cornwall recently thanks to our favourite clean water campaigners, Surfers Against Sewage.
Over 80 people turned up to the Big SAS Spring Beach Clean on March 1st to help shift 103 black bags of litter from the shoreline, making the beach a more enjoyable place for both humans and wildlife.
All identifiable litter such as branded drinks cans and bottles were collected in a separate bin, and all 207 bits of rubbish have now been posted back to their manufacturer as part of the SAS Return to Offender campaign.

Through doing this SAS hope manufactures will take more responsibility for the packaging they produce by bringing in lower impact materials, improving their anti-littering message and supporting beach cleans like this one!
Andy Cummins, SAS Campaign Manager says: "To see the beach littered with beach cleaners rather than litter was absolutely fantastic. Initially the volumes of litter on the beached shocked everyone involved. This may have spurred the volunteers on as they collected an extraordinary amount of litter from the beach, the majority of which was plastic, a persistence and harmful pollutant. Well done and thank you to everyone involved!"

Whenever I have a walk along a beach, I take a plastic bag with me and pick up any litter that corsses my path. If everyone did this, there wouldn't even be a need to do massive litter picks.
