Stephanie Gilmore wins ASP world title

Stephanie Gilmore won the Roxy Pro Sunset Beach yesterday, and with it claimed world title number two in as many years.

Relying on Mulanovich and Beachley not getting near her or the final, their shock exits early on the final day paved the way for a convincing win.

“I had no idea this was going to happen today when I woke up this morning,” Gilmore said. “Sofia (Mulanovich) went down and then Layne (Beachley) went down and I found myself in the Final with a chance to clinch it. It feels unbelievable.”

There's still one more women's ASP event this season in Maui but one imagines Gilmore will be nursing a rather large hangover today and probably not thinking too hard about it.
