Still Life with Snow
The snowboarding photography exhibition opens Saturday May 2nd in The Village at Mammoth, Mammoth Lakes, CA.
Still Life with Snow is a celebration of those photographers who have helped shaped the industry into what it is today and will feature the work of such renowned photographers as Christy Chaloux, Jeff Curtes, Danny Zapalac and Tim Zimmerman.
"Photographers are the unsung heroes of the snowboard world - great artists in their own right, capturing the emotion of riding mountains for everyone to see and feel," says Torrey Herbenar-Cook from themachinedesign.com, who is curating the event along with permaculturalist Dawn True from Mammoth Lakes.
"Without words, they communicate in a single image why we ride. And most of the time they do so without much fanfare. Athletes get TV time and adoration from fans, filmers get a premiere party, but photographers fight for a limited amount of editorial space with a small name credit after the caption. And they do so risking bodily harm and expensive camera equipment."
Still Life with Snow is a not-for-profit event with the help of Vans and The Village at Mammoth, with the revenue from the sale of the art going directly to the photographer or the charity of their choice.
