Surfing set for Olympics?

According to Surfers Village, the President of the International Surfing Association (ISA) Fernando Aguerre recently met with members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to discuss surfing becoming an Olympic sport.
The IOC criteria for surfing to become accepted into this historic institution according to Aguerre are "universality and visibility of our sport, having an excellent judging program, and keeping the cost of man-made waves reasonable."
Says Aguerre: "I’m firmly convinced that given the current developments, surfing today has a stronger chance to be in the Olympic Games. I know that all good things in life take hard work, consistency, passion and resourcefulness. We are committed to work in such a way."
So man-made waves then? Doesn't exactly fit with the spirit of surfing.
Let's hope they make a better job of it than they did with snowboarding...

Let me guess, for mainstream acceptance? Both sports are already 'cool' and already make the people involved A LOT of money.
It can't be for the actual competition because some of the best athletes in both sports will flat out refuse to compete as a matter of principle. So the competition will not be as fierce as other events in the respective sports.
Freesports should remain just that. The Olympics should stick to what they are good at: breeding mutated superhuman teenagers who achieve world notoriety at too young an age and burn about before they fully develop into adults.
