‘Tanker Surf Charters’ launches
New venture to catch oil tanker waves off the coast of Texas.
Surfing innovator James Fulbright has launched a venture to take surfers out to ride the waves created by oil tankers in the Gulf of Mexico.
Tanker Surf Charters will operate out of Galveston, Texas and will take surfers out into the ocean to ride these waves for literally miles.
Says Fulbright: “So many people from all over the world had contacted me over the years, wanting to experience this unique surfing adventure, so I finally decided to get my Captain’s license and do it right."
This alternative take on surfing was first documented in Dana Brown's 2003 film Step into Liquid.
However, with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill still wreaking environmental havoc on the area, the timing does seem a little unfortunate.
