‘The Cove’ trailer
Eco-movie may just be this year's must-see documentary.
The Cove is centered around the protest which saw Surfers for Cetaceans founder Dave Rastovich make an unlikely team with Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere. The film follows a team of elite divers, free-surfers and filmmakers as they infiltrate the small Japanese fishing village of Taiji to uncover the dark truth about the international dolphin capture trade.
With HD footage recorded using hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, its now screening at selected cinemas across the US. Filmed closely with the Ocean Protection Society, it's a harrowing but oddly beautiful account of how one 'horrifying microcosm' reflects the world's eco crimes.
Although The Cove may unravel like an entertaining blockbuster thriller, it holds a far more sinister message but one that ultimately aims to inspire change.
It has garnered blanket critical acclaim winning the Audience Award for Best Documentary at this year's Sundance Film Festival and was also recognised at the Maui Film Festival amongst others.
