When eight titles is not enough

The weekend saw Huck HQ marking (with a few beers) a milestone in the company's short lifetime: big achievements thus far, greater plans for the future. One step along the way has been the Kelly Slater cover, way back on Issue 2 with shaven head and jutting jawline.

Fast forward to the present ASP World tour and he is the only top ranked rider who has won an event, in fact 3 out of the first 4. There are seven more events and right now no one is willing to bet against him taking a stunning ninth title.

It's not like the opposition are too shabby either - there are proven winners up and down the rankings. Andy Irons, Joel Parkinson, CJ Hopgood to name a few but the evergreen Slater has a knack of closing out his heats and making the clock work in his favour.

So whilst one record-chasing legend (Federer) seems to be having a hiccup, another seems to be reinventing the wheel and showing time is not taking its toll. Perhaps Mr Slater can offer some words of wisdom.
