Josh Kerr wins Cold Water Classic Canada 2010
Australian surfer knocks local hero out to win glory in the 'True North'.
Josh Kerr won the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Canada 2010 ahead of Eric Geiselman yesterday, in clean four foot conditions in sunny Tofino.
Despite a killer day of surfing from Geiselman, who scored a 9.10 in his heat with top-ranked Shaun Cansdell, Kerr pipped him to the post, also knocking out Tofino-local, Peter Devries, earlier in the day.
“I’m disappointed, but still happy I made it through a few heats,” said Peter “I was hoping to make it to the quarters. That was one of those little goals I had in my own mind. But losing against Josh – there’s nothing wrong with that!”
Much of Tofino shut up shop on the freezing cold, sunny day to hit the beach for the final but the real shivering was not happening on the shore. “You’re blood is pumping a lot harder to keep you warm. It takes it out of you,” said Kerr. “But we are surfing in Canada – it’s a beautiful place. You’re in the mountains but by the beach. It’s a trip. I am stoked!”
The O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series now moves to its final event of the year in Santa Cruz, California in what is lining up to be a dramatic finale. With Shaun Cansdell having reached the semis here in Canada he now sits top of the rankings ahead of Stuart Kennedy. But still in the running are an on form Glenn Hall as well as Dion Atikinson.
The O’Neill Cold Water Classic California will start on October 18.
