Wavegarden goes public
Inland, sustainable surf facility to ease the torment of flat spells.
Wavegarden just announced that they are building a new inland surfing pool to be opened to the public in the Basque Country.
Come Spring 2012, Wavegarden aims to be up and running, churning out "high-quality, man-made waves [...] focused on surfing at all levels, from beginner to competition."
Also, "it will mark the first human-generated wave that breaks in natural surroundings with a low environmental impact and an energy consumption average of only 350 kWh."
The new facility shares the same location as the Wavegarden prototype – a mere "12 minutes from the sea in the Basque Country" – and comes with a new, improved wave of up to 1.3 metres, providing a public oasis of endless, flawless waves to help overcome the torment of flat spells.
Though it's no substitute, it's an exciting, sustainable prospect for soon-to-be surfers as well as the surf-deprived.
