White snow and the seven lakes
The freestyle pro week was held this September at Cerro Chapelco in the Andean Lake District. One of the most magnificent landscapes in the world, it covers an area of 300km from north to south and overlaps the dramatic mountains that form the border between Chile and Argentina.

The quaint town of San Martin de Los Andes, at the edge of Lake Lacar, is gateway to Cerro Chapelco, Argentina’s second largest ski resort, situated in a natural basin, surrounded by dense forests and snow-capped mountains. This spectacular scenery provided the backdrop for a truly impressive demonstration of winter sports.
Three enormous kickers encouraged the finest skiers and snowboarders from all over South America to congregate for the event. The atmosphere was intense as the riders performed majestic tricks off the massive jumps, painting the air with huge snow sprays. Sparks flew in the snow as pros gave an explosive display in front of the looming volcano.

After the event, celebrations were held on the beach of Lake Lacar, one of seven lakes on the famous dirt track road Ruta de los Siete Lagos. The route meanders through rugged terrain, over dazzling rivers and past the seven glistening lakes.

On a homebound mission with South America Snow Session (SASS), we drove over rocky river beds and snowy mountain passes, igniting the imagination of ski pro Mauricio Cambilla, who spotted several new locations for back country snow adventures during the journey. Our arrival at the end of the route, at Bariloche on Lake Nahuel Huapi, was marked by a spectacular sunset, the perfect end to a fairy tale journey.
