I just thought about your age and it came to me, the silly old stand-up farts who disliked bodyboarders in 30 years will be tooo old to surf. Then the ocean will be a peaceful place full of stand-up surfers and bodyboarders at equal!
At least you have realised bodyboarders are here to stay!

Get over it. This argument isn't goin anywhere. You'll never get all that time you spent writing that back y'know? That's it - gone, ka poof, adios. All to reiterate the same shit that's been said time and time before. Bodyboarders aren't going anywhere either. They've built their own industry form the inside out, and now they're the ones incharge of their own fate. No more waiting on table scaps from stand up surfing companies who were quite happy to take boogers money and rag on them at the same time.

I can't relate to the surf scene anymore. All this fucking image shit is beyond a joke. It's not fun like it was once upon a time.

Tolerance.
I cannot fathom it. I don't understand why people, why every person is so bad to each other so often. It doesn't make sense to me. Judgment. Control. Tolerance.

interesting to hear everyone's comments, thanks for taking the time to read my blog. or as green day sang, 'why do you listen to me whine' ha ha. but i feel like have to reiterate a few things: one surfing is WAY more difficult than bodyboarding and the problem is that guys who have only been doing it for four months can make the back line, usually without learning the respect and ettiquette it takes surfers YEARS to absorb (well most surfers anyway), but at the same time yes the ocean is for everyone, yet on the flipside there are tons of goons - on all kinds of boards - that spoil it for everyone. it's an ongoing conundrum and one that I think will go one for as long as the ocean stays clean for us to play in...

Miles, you disappointment, you shoulda kept buring those esky lids!

Screw bodyboarders, and poeple who don't get wave etiquette in general. I've seen far too many get in the way at my local break and put others in danger.

If you dont know what to do, stay the hell out. You wouldn't go down a double diamond run if you didnt know how to ski, so why the hell would you take on a break that you arent skilled enough for?

Learn the rules first!

I was born across the road from a mellow family-oriented break, and spent my childhood bodysurfing and boogie boarding my little heart out - innocently unaware of what anyone thought of my presence. It's only when you get older and get to understand what those dark looks from the local crew actually mean (read: get the hell out of my way, newbie) that you start to feel like you don't have as much right to be there as they do.

There's so much attitude in this world already - so many in-crowds placing first dibs on every genre of music, every niche new scene - can't we find a little sanctuary some place where everyone can be.

I wish I was still that boogie boarding kid, who wasn't intimidated by small minds on big boards.

Someone should hurry up and invent 'surf blading' then this arguement would be pointless because everyone would be hating on them...

It would kinda be like jet skiing except you would have to swim out and quickly attach the small paddles to your feet as the wave approaches. Actually, that sounds bloody hard. Surfers would struggle to argue against that shit. Bring on SURF BLADES!
